Newport News Machine Shop Services

About Hampton Machine Shop, Inc.

Hampton Machine Shop is located in the heart of the shipbuilding and marine repair center known as Hampton Roads, Virginia. Located nearby are the facilities of NASA Langley Research Center, Thomas Jefferson Labs (CEBAF), Hampton University, Old Dominion University, Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Huntington-Ingalls Shipbuilding (Newport News Shipyard). Couple these operations with the variety of agricultural and commercial operations in the area, and it's easy to see the diversity of clientele serviced and satisfied by HMS.

The primary reason for this success has been Hampton Machine Shops ability to be your "complete" machine and fabrication shop!

Hampton Machine Shop Virginia

Our product line ranges from 200 sq. ft. aluminum electron beam targets to 40 foot tall tanker masts to 0.0009 cubic inch plastic plug inserts. If it can be machined, welded or joined, HMS has the capability. Our service diversity is only surpassed by our quality assurance measures. The HMS Quality Assurance Program is in full compliance with MIL-45208A and has been approved by the Defense Contract Administration Service (DCAS), Huntington-Ingalls Shipbuilding, Bath Iron Works and the Southern Tidewater Association of Ship Repairers.

Company History

Established in 1972 with the original location on Aberdeen Road, Hampton Machine Shop was purchased by Ed Wilson in 1980. In 2000, construction was completed on a new 51,000 square foot facility in Newport News, putting all operations under one roof. Just twelve short years later, HMS had expanded to the point of purchasing an additional 70,000 square foot location in Hampton to give us our combined 121,000 square feet we have today. We were honored in 2006 to be one of the first manufacturers to be Lean Certified in the United States, and we continue to work with ODU on a regular basis to maintain our certification.
